OUR RESPONSIBILTY
North Trade’s Environmental Policy
North Trade’s business is selling meat and that puts us squarely in the focus of the environmental debate. Many people claim that both long transport routes and meat production itself, especially beef production, have a strong negative environmental and climate impact.
Environmental Policy
North Trade’s policy is to show complete openness towards customers and external stakeholders wanting to scrutinize our business. Our CSR-policy and in NATURKÕTT® "Beef Production Standard" strictly regulate production of our products. "NATURKÕTT® BEEF Production Standard" is certified by an independent third party: svenska Prosanitas.
We aim to keep several steps ahead in the development of increasingly sustainable production, which is why we are constantly looking to increase our knowledge about ways we can contribute. We are aware that our position on sustainable production means we attract critical scrutiny and we are constantly on the lookout for new expertise and new findings to develop our criteria for NATURKÕTT® producers. We are convinced that even a relatively small operator can have a big impact on the future of farm product production methods all over the world.
What relationship does Naturkött® have to the destruction of the rain forest in Brazil?
Felling the rain forest to make way for arable land is a major climate threat through the release of huge amounts of carbon dioxide and the threat to biodiversity in the region. A large part of this land is currently used for grazing cattle.
North Trade and Naturkött® undertakings. We have:
• Stipulated in contracts with our suppliers that no meat from cattle raised on land that was formerly rain forest will be supplied to North Trade. To make sure of this, the measures we have put in place include a ban on all Naturkött® production in the state of Mato Grosso (one of the largest production regions).
• Made sure that that the farms supplying Naturkött® cattle comply with Brazilian legislation in regard to the special rules applying to natural forests. Farms that do not comply with these rules have been black listed and North Trade’s suppliers have undertaken not to purchase meat from these farms.
• Taken initiatives for and continuously encourage production systems in which more beef can be produced on smaller areas. This results in reduced greenhouse gas emissions, reduced soil impoverishment and preservation of forests.
North Trade employs specialists in Brazil to carry out daily checks to confirm compliance with our Naturkött® production criteria.
